Dolores Hidalgo and Wineries Tour

Talavera on the Dolores Hidalgo Wine Tour

San Miguel is surrounded by magic towns, and one of the most significant is Dolores Hidalgo. The town is named after Father Hidalgo who taught the townspeople the art of talavera and uttered El Grito– The call that began the Mexican War of Independence against the Spanish in 1810. Shop for talavera, walk through the plaza and taste uniquely flavored ice cream (mezcal, anyone?) and have time to explore the mercado and museums.

Next, we will visit the oldest winery in the state of Guanajuato known for its wines and architectural design. Last, we will visit one of the youngest wineries in the state. Each person will get to taste 2 full glasses of wine at each winery. Food is not included, but we do have time to eat at either of the wineries.

  2. […] 45 minutes northwest of San Miguel de Allende is the pueblo magico of Dolores Hidalgo. This little town is much more laidback than San Miguel and not as busy. You can visit historic museums about Father Hidalgo who shouted the Cry of Independence that started the Mexican War of Independence, the Wine Museum, the mercado, and eat some unique ice cream flavors like ceviche, mezcal, and mole in the main plaza. They have other recognizable flavors, too. You don’t need more than a few hours in Dolores Hidalgo. You can take a taxi to the town, go on a tour to both Dolores Hidalgo and Atotonilco,  or combine it with some wineries for a full day of exploration on a Dolores Hidalgo Wine Tour with Heart of Mexico Wine Tours.
