Spain 2023: A Land of Castles, Gastronomy and Wine

Our first international trips will be to Spain, a land of castles, gastronomy and wine. The regions of Spain have their own specialties and architecture and we will explore outside the usual tourism routes on three different trips. Join us for one, two or all three journeys to discover the history, architecture, wine and gastronomy of different parts of Spain.

Castilla y Leon- Queen Isabella I Kingdom Tour

Dates: Arrive April 15. Tour Dates: April 16-22, 2023

Journey through Castilla y Leon and experience the place where Isabella I of Castilla was born, raised and ruled. Noted as one of the strongest women in history, we’ll visit towns and castles while also sipping our way through the white wine region of Rueda and red wine region of Toro. We will stay in Segovia and Valladolid for the week with visits to smaller villages like Avila, Toro, Medina del Campo and a few castles along the way. Our itinerary includes hotel, breakfast, lunches, wine tastings, castle entrance fees and two dinners.  You’ll have some free time to explore the towns of Segovia and Valladolid on your own for tapas, vermouth, or famous restaurants during our stay.

Sample Itinerary:

April 15- Arrive in Madrid. We will provide hotel accommodations for you. Spend the day in Madrid visiting the Prado or eating chocolate and churros at San Gines. If you arrive early we can give you a city tour on this day. Or if you arrive later, meet up with us that night for a tapas crawl around the Plaza Santa Ana (which is included). Just don’t stay out too late, the wine tour begins at 9am on April 16th.

April 16-18

We’ll stay in Segovia for three nights as we explore the surrounding area full of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, castles, Rueda wineries for delicious white Verdejo wines and small villages like Avila and Medina del Campo that played a large role in Isabella I ascension to the throne as the first queen of Spain. We will weave the history of the queen from birth until her marriage to Ferdinand through the villages and towns of the Castilla that played important roles in her life while enjoying the wine and food of the region. All breakfast and lunch meals will be included and we will have one group dinner at the famous Meson Candido. The other two nights you are free to explore the tapas bars or restaurants on your own.

April 19-21

We’ll travel to Valladolid for the next 3 nights and sample the bold Tempranillo based wines of Toro between Zamora and Valladolid while stopping at beautiful castles and historic sights. Valladolid was founded by a Celtic tribe, became an important Roman outpost and was briefly the capital of Habsburg Spain between 1601-1606. It houses the National Museum of Sculpture and Cervantes former residence. Ferdinand of Aragon married Isabella of Castile in Valladolid and Christopher Columbus died there in 1506. All breakfast and lunches and one dinner will be provided.

April 22

We will return to Madrid by early afternoon to give you plenty of time to explore more of the city or move on to another part of Spain on your own. High speed rail can transport you to any corner of the kingdom quickly and cheaply from the capital.

Included:

The first nights stay in Madrid with tapas crawl, Hotels for three nights each in Segovia and Valladolid (double occupancy, single supplement applies), all breakfasts and lunches and three dinners, all ground transportation, entry into all castles, cathedrals, and attractions, all wine tastings.

Does not include:

Airfare to and from Madrid airport, ground transportation to and from the airport, gratuities and some dinners.

Dietary Restrictions: Spain is a country that eats meat, seafood, dairy and vegetables. Please know what you can and cannot eat. We cannot always provide special menus for your needs.

Rioja Region: Wine and Gastronomy Tour

Dates: Arrive April 22. Tour dates: April 23-29, 2023

This is a very special trip for us. Tiffany worked directly for the Rioja winery association in America and Tom represented Ferderico Patternina winery in Florida for seven years and has sold tens of thousands of bottles of Rioja wines during his 34 years in the wine industry. We are calling in all of our markers to get unparalleled access to the best wineries in the region with VIP experiences that no other tour company can offer. Believe me, we are looking forward to this week more than you are. It’s going to be red wine nirvana.

Rioja wines are famous around the world, and we take you on an intimate journey through the notorious wine region. We’ll spend a day in Burgos and a day in Pamplona exploring Ernest Hemingway’s hangouts, and in between we will be relaxing for 4 nights in the three different Rioja regions marveling at the architecture, wine and gastronomy. *Details on towns to follow soon.

April 23- We head to Burgos, one of the larger city stops on the Camino de Santiago.

April 24-27- Prepare to eat and drink your way around the Rioja region visiting world famous wineries and small villages with a wine culture dating back centuries like Briones, Laguardia, Ezcaray and Haro. We will stay in Logrono, centrally located to all everything in the Rioja region. Dinner at El Portal del Echaurren, a two-star Michelin restaurant is included.

April 28- We’ll head out in the morning to Pamplona, the capital of Navarre and one of Ernest Hemingway’s favorite hangouts while in Spain.

April 29- Our tour ends in Pamplona. Train tickets back to Madrid are included in this package, or we can make arrangements for you to continue on to San Sebastian with us for a gastronomical tour of the North coast of Spain.

Basque Country Tour

Dates: April 29- May 7, 2023

For foodies, a visit to the Basque Country is a must. We will base ourselves in San Sebastian known for having more Michelin stars (per capita) than anywhere else in the world. We are more than happy to help arrange an itinerary for you, or you can join us on certain days when we visit Getaria for a sideria and Txakoli or pintxos in Hondarribia. Perhaps lunch on the water in Zarautz? Or Bilbao for the Guggenheim?We can arrange hotel accommodations for you or you can book your own.

First Deposit Required by December 16, 2022

To reserve any of the above tours, a deposit of $500 USD will be required. We encourage monthly payments for the tours. Book early, as these will be small group tours with a maximum of 10 people.

Cancellation policy: The first deposit of $500 USD is non-refundable. The remaining balance will be refundable up to 30 days prior of your tour dates.
