San Miguel Cooking Class at Casa de la Noche

Casa de la Noche, a boutique bed-and-breakfast in San Miguel de Allende, is partnering with Heart of Mexico Wine Tours to offer you a unique cooking class experience led by Chef Tom.

About Casa de la Noche Boutique Bed-n-Breakfast

The current owner of Casa de la Noche has lived in San Miguel de Allende for 20 years. She refurbished this popular 1950s bordello property into a unique bed and breakfast with several different common areas and bedroom styles perfect for single travelers, couples and artistic groups. Each room has its own en suite bathroom, and many of the rooms open to private courtyards.

Things to do at Casa de la Noche

Casa de la Noche offers yoga classes, massages, and rooms for art instruction or workshops. Additionally, a new theater has been built beside the property hosting small productions. The hotel is just a few minutes’ walk to different mercados and prominent landmarks around San Miguel de Allende. And now, it extends its list of “things to do” with a cooking class focused on Mexican cuisine.

Our cooking class takes place in one of the secluded kitchens and courtyards at Casa de la Noche. Chef Tom leads the class along with his wife Tiffany.

About Chef Tom

Chef Tom has traveled the world, and the meals he has experienced at restaurants in Europe, Asia and South America provided ample inspiration for his cooking creations back home. After thirty-three years in the wine business, Tom and Tiffany semi-retired to Mexico. Today they run Heart of Mexico Wine Tours focusing on wine and food experiences around San Miguel de Allende and Queretaro. Tom has been busy in his large kitchen experimenting with Mexican ingredients using European and local indigenous equipment and techniques.

Cooking Class at Casa de la Noche

After studying masa in Mexico City, Tom is now sharing his knowledge and leading cooking classes illustrating how to make carnitas, chicken tinga, salsa de arbol, salsa verde, huaraches (stuffed masa cooked on the plancha) and sopes (thick corn tortillas topped with pork or chicken). Tiffany leads a shopping expedition at the mercado to buy some of our fresh produce. During our class, you will make your own huaraches and sopes with your choice of fillings and salsas. Later, enjoy your food creation with agua fresco, a cocktail, or local wine and beer.

Our cooking class will focus on local Mexican ingredients and techniques to make a multicourse meal with different salsas. At the end of class, a recipe ebook will be emailed to you so you can recreate what you learned for family and friends at home.
